One Direction booked their place in this year’s X Factor finals with two of their best performances of the series so far.
Singing Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl In The world’ and Snow Patrol’s ‘Chasing Cars’, the One Direction boys delivered a performance that made Simon declared just how proud he was of them. He said: ‘I am proud of you as people as much as I am artists’.
However, Cheryl Cole tried to take the shine of the boy’s big night by saying she was not keen on the song by Rihanna because it was such a recent hit for her. We seem to recall Cheryl giving Joe Mcelderry a recent song by an artist last year so we are not sure where she was coming from with her comments.
Here is what the judges had to say in full on Saturday Night, and check out the One Direction Videos below:
Only Girl In The World:
LOUIS WALSH: Every week you are getting better and better. If there is any justice you will be in the final.
DANNII MINOGUE: Guys I hope you never let us down because I really want you as the next big boyband. I have to say some weeks the staging is very samey but that one was brilliant and you really stepped it up for semi final week.
CHERYL COLE: I love you guys, this week for me I got to know you all a little better because your mentor wasn’t here. That song for me was a little bit dangerous because it’s so current, right now as Rihanna’s record that you have to completely make it like it was never ever written for her. I don’t know if it quite worked for me but I hope to see you in the final.
SIMON COWELL: Someone’s being tactical! I have to tell you guys and I know I sound a little bit biased but I thought the song was perfect for you. They didn’t take the safe option, they chose something completely different, they had the guts to do it. They looked current, sounded current and you guys have just been fantastic to work with.
Chasing Cars:
LOUIS WALSH: Liam, Zayn, Niall, harry and Louis there is something about this band, you have something special, you are the next big thing. There’s a great vibe about you, if there is any Justine the young kids will lift their phones and vote you into the final.
DANNII MINOGUE: Guys, you’ve had a really tough week and that was such a classy classy performance. You’ve grown up before our eyes and we’ve never had such a good band on the X Factor. I’m so proud to see you five on the show.
CHERYL COLE: Me, all the crew and the staff have become so fond of you guys. This week I was so impressed and you showed a real level of maturity and you deserve a place in the final.
SIMON COWELL: I was told today that you made a decision this morning to get in at 8am so you could get more rehearsal time. That’s what it’s all about, it’s not about excuses, it’s about having a great work ethic, picking yourself up after a tough week. I am proud of you as people as much as I am artists.
