Thane Prince show how to make mulled cider or apple juice winter warming drinks on This Morning.
Thane says: “This warm drink can be made either with alcoholic dry cider of simple apple juice.”
The ingredients are: 1 ½ litre of cider or apple juice, 4 small apples, A dozen cloves, 1-2 sticks cinnamon, A few bay leaves, A long piece of orange zest, About 100gms 4oz light brown sugar, 100ml Calvados or apple brandy (optional).
To prepare the drink, core the apples and cut a strip of peel from around the perimeter of each one. Stud them with cloves.
Place the apples, cider, spices, bay and orange zest into a deep steel or enamel pan and warm over a low to moderate heat for 15-20 minutes. Do not let the mixture boil.
Add sugar to taste and just before serving stir in the Calvados.
If time allows you can let the spices infuse in the cold cider for a couple of hours before warming as above.
