Junior MasterChef 2014 got on the way this week with the first four young cooks – Harry, Jaya, Amelie and Joel – showcasing their cooking skills for the first time on the show.

The junior cooks must impress judges John Torode and Donal Skehan with plates of food that stands out from the crowd if they are to progress to the next stage of the competition.

To kick things off the cooks had to make their ultimate burgers but first, the judges decided to showcase their burgers before the junior cooks entered the kitchen.

John Torode made a bacon with pineapple burger and Donal Skehan served up his BLT burger to get the competition started.

Meet the young cooks cooking up a treat in the first episode of Junior MasterChef 2014:

Harry 12, from Swansea,
Jaya 10, Essex,
Amelie 10, North Yorkshire,
Joel 10, Surrey.

After doing battle in the kitchen to try to win over the judges, all the young cooks did very well with their dishes but it was Amelie that the judges selected to go through to the semi-finals.
