I don’t know about you but I am not a fan of the group songs in the result shows. Sometimes I thing they are a bit awkward and pointless. However, once in a while I am presently surprised with a performance; Sunday evening was one of those times.

Singing Telephone by Lady Gaga and Beyonce Knowles, the X factor final 14 delivered a performance that in my view should never have worked, but it did. They nearly all sang in tune and thanks to the styling and choreography they had good stage presence and looked as though they were all having a good time.

The track was opened by Katie Waissel and Rebecca Ferguson, who were soon joined by Matt Cardle and Aiden Grimshaw; Cher Lloyd managed to squeeze in a mini rap that seems to work quite well.

The styling had a red and black theme that was well thought out. A triumph for the X Factor styling department that was much need given the press they have had in the past week.
