Brian Turner and Janet Street-Porter visits West Sussex on today’s Taste of Britain.
They began their tour of the county at Nyetimber vineyard, producer of one of the UK’s finest sparkling wines.
After sampling the wines, Brian got a touch of inspiration for a mussels dish to impress Janet with before she sets off to visit Bignor Roman Villa on the South Downs.
The Nyetimber estate counts three major landmarks in its history. Its earliest beginnings saw it first recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086. Then there was the planting of the first vines, almost exactly 900 years later. Most recently, there was the decision in 2006 that Nyetimber wines deserved an audience on the world stage.
Today their fine wines are enjoyed the world over and Brian’s tasty mussels dish does justice to one of their most popular sparkling wines.
