As the only girl group in the competition this year, Belle Amie done the unexpected, they survived eviction from the show in the first week. This is the first year for a long time that a girl group has not been booted of the show in the first round eliminations.
Nicolo Festa unfortunately broke the curse of a girl group early exit and finished the live shows in last place closely followed by FYD. Two acts went on Sunday as a result of the wildcard that saw four acts returned on Saturday that were rejected at the judges houses stage of the competition.
On the night, host Dermot O’Leary first announced that Nicolo Festa, FYD and Katie Waissel had finished as the bottom three, before revealing that as the act with the lowest amount of votes, Nicolo would be immediately sent home.
A shocked Nicolo, who performed Lady GaGa’s ‘Just Dance’ on Saturday’s show, was stunned into a rare silence after hearing the result.
Following the announcement, Nicolo’s mentor Dannii Minogue said: “It’s so hard to stand out with 16 acts on the first show. I thought Nicolo sang fantastically.”
After Nicolo’s elimination, FYD went on to sing Rihanna’s ‘Please Don’t Stop The Music’ followed by Katie Waissel who sang ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ by The Beatles in a final attempt to impress the judges.
Simon Cowell questioned why Waissel hadn’t sung her survival song yesterday before voting to save his own act FYD.
Cheryl Cole as expected also saved her act Katie Waissel, but added that it was “not just a biased decision”.
Dannii Minogue then decided to vote out FYD and Louis Walsh said he would “do the right thing” and casting the deciding vote that sent FYD home.
So, Wagner and Belle Amie live to fight another day.
