Roopa Gulati served up a tasty red lentil dal with tarka, baasmati rice and lime on Jamie’s Feast For A Fiver.
The ingredients are: 200g red lentils (masoor dal), washed and soaked in hot water for 1 hour, ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric and 350g baby spinach leaves.
For the tarka: 5 tablespoon sunflower oil, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon red chilli flakes (Kashmiri, if possible), 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped, 30g fresh ginger, peeled and finely grated, 1 large, or 2 small green chillies, deseeded and finely chopped and 1 tomato, diced.
For the rice: 300g basmati rice and 30g butter.
To serve: juice of 1 lime.
