Sorry Flora, you are too fast correcting Nigella. Reality is that these are indeed appelflappen as well however, they are also sometimes referred to as appelbeignets. It depends greatly on the region. The recepy of Nigella are the real appelflappen for oud jaar. The triangles are not. My mother and grandmother allways baked them on oud jaar. The are deliccious.
Sorry to have to correct Nigella, but as a Dutch woman i know, these are not appelflappen. An appelflap is a triangular shaped pastry. Made with an Apple and raisin filling (with cinnamon and sugar) encased in puff pastry. These are appelbeignets. (Still delicious)
