Nadiya Hussain served up tasty and healthy chicken shawarma with slaw and flatbread on this Morning.
The ingredients are: 2 tablespoons cornflour, 1 tablespoon salt, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoon dried leaf coriander, 1 teaspoon paprika, 1 teaspoon ground turmeric, ½ teaspoon ground cloves, 1 tablespoon cayenne, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and 750g boneless chicken thighs, halved.
For the raw slaw: 1 large broccoli floret, thinly sliced, 300ml Greek yoghurt, 4 tablespoons vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon mustard powder, 1 tablespoon mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon salt and Fresh parsley, finely chopped.
See the recipe in Nadiya’s book titled: Time to Eat: Delicious meals for busy lives available from Amazon now.
I made this and I was concerned about adding a whole tablespoon of salt – it sounded like a lot of salt. When it was cooked, I sliced it and tasted it and it had been pretty much ruined by salt! This is the saltiest thing I have ever eaten and I like salt. I think the recipe needs adjusting, to “half a teaspoon of salt” or “no salt”. It’s a terrible recipe and extremely unhealthy…because of the ridiculously high amount of salt.
