X Factor favourite painter and decorator Matt Cardle sailed through to this year’s X Factor semi finals after delivering another storming set of performances on rock week.
Matt is the only boy left in the competition and Dannii is pinning all her hopes on her one remaining act to go all the way to the finals. The judge pointed out that she only needs one act to win and “That’s what I’ve going to do”
In round one of the show Matt sang the Britney Spears version of I Love Rock And Roll.
This is what the judges made of his performance:
Louis Walsh: “You can sing anything, you can sing rock and pop… It was good to see you moving around the stage.” He continued: “I think you’re definitely safe next week.”
Cheryl Cole: “There’s so much love for you out there.”
Simon agreed with Louis for once saying: “I actually thought it was terrific.”
Meanwhile the crowd chanted Matt’s name as Dannii said: “I know that’s what you want to hear because you’ve been sick all week, you couldn’t even rehearse yesterday.”
For Matt’s second song he took things down tempo sitting on a stool and playing guitar to sing Nights In White Satin by the Moody Blues.
The judges said:
Louis Walsh: “All I can say is it doesn’t get better than that.” He told fellow judge Dannii it was: “A great song choice, emotional heart wrenching, note perfect.”
Cheryl agreed telling him: “This is when you are at your best. That for me was my favourite performance of yours ever.”
Simon Cowell: “I gotta be honest with you I was nervous it was going to be old fashioned…I thought it was absolutely genius.”
Dannii Minogue: “I can see how much you want this and that’s a good thing.”
An emotional Matt told Dermot: “It was an absolute pleasure to sing that song” continuing: “I don’t think I could want it to win the competition anymore if I tried.”
